How can I stop hair loss or thinning hair?
Prevention of hair loss
How can I stop hair loss or thinning hair? Prevention of hair loss is the main goal to
stop thinning hair. Some symptoms that cause hair loss can correct themselves
after a certain period of time, such as child birth, certain illnesses or surgery.
However, some conditions can only be corrected with the following proper treatments.
* Inadequate diet: If your body isn’t getting enough protein, it can contribute to hair loss or thinning hair. This condition can be reversed by eating a prop er amount of protein. Protein is found in beef, chicken, pork, fish, eggs, soy beans, peas, tofu, nuts, soy milk, cheese, grains, among other foods.
* Vitamin and mineral deficiency: Deficiency of vitamins A, B, C, and E can cause hair loss or thinning hair. You should eat a variety of foods to ensure an adequate intake of vitamins. Hair also needs minerals, especially iron, to prevent hair loss or thinning hair.
Vitamin A is found in foods including asparagus, beets, broccoli, butter, cantaloupe, carrot, cheese, fish, garlic, green olives, liver, papaya, peaches, prunes, red peppers, sweet potatoes, spinach, and watercress.
Vitamin B complex (Vitamin B6, Folic Acid and B12) is found in asparagus, broccoli, beans, brown rice, cabbage, cauliflower, cheese, eggs, fish, meat, milk, nuts, seeds, poultry, pork, oatmeal, raisins, spinach, whole grains, and yogurt.
Vitamin C is found in asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cantaloupe, cauliflower, grapefruits, lemons, mangos, oranges, pineapples, radishes, spinach, strawberries, sweet peppers, and tomatoes.
Vitamin E is found in almond, brown rice, cornmeal, eggs, herring, milk, nuts, seeds, oatmeal, peanuts, spinach, sweet potatoes, soy beans, vegetable oils, and whole grains.
Iron is found in beans (kidney and lima), bread, cereals, dates, eggs, lentils, parsley, peaches, prunes, raisins, rice, sesame seeds, soy beans, and wheat bran.
* Severe stress: Severe stress may trigger white blood cells to attack the hair follicles which can cause hair loss or thinning hair. The hair loss caused by severe stress usually starts as a small round patch called alopecia areata. However, it may eventually spread to the whole scalp. Reducing stress can stop hair loss or thinning hair.
Try the following stress control methods; 1) deep breathing, 2) listening to your favorite music, 3) viewing some soothing images, 4) meditation, 5) yoga, and 6) plenty of sleep.
It takes months to resolve your emotional and physical stress, but your hair gradually grows back if you can reduce your stress.
* Medications: Certain medications with undesirable side effects make the hair dry and brittle which can result in hair loss or thinning hair. If you take any medication, such as acne medicines, diet pills, anti- depressants, anti-inflammatories, birth control pills, blood thinners, gout or arthritis medications, high blood pressure medicines, or seizure medications, check to see if they could be causing hair loss or thinning hair. I listed them on the previous page.
If you find that any of these are in your medicine and notice a sudden hair loss, ask your doctor if you can take a different medicine. If needed, your doctor may suggest treatment options for the hair loss as well.
* Improper hair care: Having your hair chemically treated, such as getting it colored, bleached, straightened, or permed, can cause damage that may make the hair break off or fall out temporarily. Wearing hair pulled back tightly can result in a condition called traction alopecia.
If you wear this style for a long time, it places tension on the scalp and damages the hair follicles. Try to avoid frequent uses of chemical treatments. While you are shampooing, massage your scalp gently with your finger tips, which will increase blood circulation to the scalp and help your hair grow faster.
* Bad habit of pulling hair: Some people have a bad habit of pulling or twisting their hair repeatedly, often leaving bald patches called trichotillomania. It is often just a bad habit that occurs subconsciously. Sometimes it can be a sign of a serious problem that requires professional help from a therapist or other specialist.
However, some people develop this habit when they get nervous, bored, or stressed out. Treatment can be entirely educational and behavioral. In other words, explain the harmful effects of the habit and teach them how to cope with unpleasant stresses in other ways.
* Fungus infection: It is a contagious disease most common in school-age children. It begins with small patches of scaling, redness and swelling, which can lead to hair loss. It can usually be treated with an oral antifungal medication.
* Thyroid problems: Both over-active and under-active thyroid problems can cause hair loss or thinning hair, but it can be reversed with proper treatment. Thyroid problems are especially common in women as they age. However, there are some products and treatments which may reduce or even stop hair loss caused by thyroid problems.
* Cancer treatments: This can cause temporary hair loss, partial or even complete baldness depending on the drug used, the dosage given and the way that your body reacts to the drug. During the treatment, it is possible to reduce the amount of cancer drugs that reach the hair follicles by cooling the scalp. There are many different methods of cooling the scalp. Hair loss or thinning hair due to chemotherapy however, will grow back when the treatment is over.
* Genetic hair loss: This type of hair loss or thinning hair can be inherited from either parent. While women's hair generally becomes thinner, men can go completely bald. Genetic hair loss typically starts however, with a receding hairline and thinning at the crown area. The hair loss or thinning hair gradually progresses to a bald spot at the crown and eventually complete baldness on the top of the head.
The hair follicles of people with this trait may be more susceptible to a chemical in the body called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a substance in the scalp that can shrink the hair follicle until it no longer produces visible hair.
Although there is no cure, the following solution and treatment are available that may help. They will definitely prevent hair loss and help hair growth.
1) Minoxidil: Minoxidil 5% solution is designed for men and Monoxidil 2% solution is designed for women. They are FDA-approved topical treatments for men and women to help stop hairloss and re-grow hair. Many people who use Minoxidil regularly experience a slowing or stopping of hair loss.
2) Revivogen: Revivogen is a outstanding hair loss formula designed to fight thinning hairs and stimulate regrowth. Male pattern hair loss is most often caused by excessive DHT production. Revivogen blocks DHT by combining a host of anti-DHT agents in order to curb hair loss and help hair growth.
